Much to your surprise, workplace accidents can prove to be quite dangerous. You may have slipped over a wet surface, tripped over a wire or stumbled against an object and fell. Whatever be the reason for the injury, if it has resulted due to the negligence of someone, you can make a claim. It is your right to make a claim.

Your employer is bound by duty to guide you on the safety mechanism while making a claim. They must tell you about health and safety issues that affect you. Besides this, they are also under legal obligation to report certain accidents and incidents. They cannot go scot-free if the injury has resulted due to their negligence.

It is their duty to provide adequate safety measures at the work place to all the employees. Your employer must report quickly the occurrence of accident. They must not let go of the incident. They must report:

• Major injuries, for instance broken arm
• Death
• Any type of injury that prevents an employee from carrying out regular work for more than three days
• Disease
• Dangerous incidents, such as people overcome by gas

Your employer must carry out a risk assessment and must do the needful to take care of the health and safety of employees and visitors. They must give due thought while selecting to the type of machinery in the office. The machinery must be safe and easy to handle. Similarly, they must give attention to where the employee is made to sit. The place must be risk free and not be exposed to any kind of accidents. They must have first aid ready at the office premises.

It is also required by law to record accidents in a record book. Any occurrence of accident must be recorded in employer’s accident book. It is a must to keep an accident book. This record keeps a record of the occurrence of accident as to when and under what circumstances the accident occurred. If employers are found guilty for the cause of accident, they must provide compensation to them.

If the employers are the cause for the accident, they must provide the required compensation quickly. If the employee suffers serious injuries and is rendered unfit to continue work, he or she must be provided with compensation. It is the responsibility of the employers to ensure all the safety measures are in place. They must not miss out on any safety standards. The safety of employees must be of utmost importance to employers.
